Annette's Preschool is a  5 STAR program

After School Clubhouse

The Clubhouse provides a safe, enriching, and stimulating environment for Schoolage children to come to when school is not in session. We strongly believe in having a child-centered program and curriculum. This helps to balance out their day of structure and formal education at community school. Our program empowers the children to become an integral part of the curriculum planning and implementation on a daily basis. This allows our children to learn the value of exploration, friendship, relaxation, innovation, creativity, and how to listen to their individual physical and cognitive needs in a social setting. As teaching professionals, we believe our role is to direction, guide, facilitate, suggest, provide an abundance of different materials, and serve as role models throughout this process. We offer age-appropriate activities that encourage social, physical, emotional, and creative growth. We are committed to making the Clubhouse as enriching and fun as possible!

As a member of the Hinesburg Community for over 20 years, we have created a lasting relationship and strong lines of communication with the Hinesburg Community School. We are a designated bus route from HCS for children attending our After School Program, often attend IEP meetings at HCS to ensure that we are meeting the individual needs of your children, and will often communicate with Hinesburg Families through their newsletter, the Viking!

The Clubhouse is open to children for all of those tricky ½ days and early dismissals. We are a designated bus route on these days and greet your children off the bus for some extra hours of fun! We are also open all school vacations, and take separate enrollment for those weeks. If you don't normally attend the afterschool program but would like some care for those days when school is not in session, we are open to expanding our roster.

Although we create a very structured plan for the week, we are an extremely flexible program and primarily use that plan as a general outline or suggestion of activities. We base our curriculum and activities by daily moods, needs, and weather. Every week the children have the opportunity to participate in many core curriculum areas such as physical fitness, outdoor education and exploration, creative arts & crafts, team-building & problem solving, music & dance, relaxation technique, science & technology, and dramatic play. We spend lots of time building relationships and exploring our creativity (things can get pretty silly!). To say the least, we stay very busy but also maintain a sense of relaxation and flexibility since the children have been in a school environment all day.

Our facility is designed to meet the standards of our Schoolage Curriculum and Philosophy. The following areas are utilized weekly to achieve a balance in all areas of growth.

The Clubhouse (Located Upstairs) - The clubhouse is where we hold our daily meetings and team games, as well as our Homework, Drama, and thematic clubs throughout the year. The Clubhouse is equipped with educational materials and resources, desks, comfortable furniture, a platform and dress-up clothes for our theatrical moments, as well as a quiet library for the children to read in.

The Creative Corner (Located Upstairs) – The Creative Corner is a separate room off of the Clubhouse, used as an art studio. This room is loaded with both classic and eclectic art supplies as well as a gallery of the year's creative expression from the children.

The Lounge (Located Downstairs) – The Lounge is packed with internet -capable Computers, comfortable couches and furniture, a Wii Game System, Playstation II, Lego table and assembly area, K'Nex, Board Games, Cars & Racetracks, Cinema Viewing Area, Foosball Table, Sand Table with pulleys and simple machines, and a Take-A-Part Electronic Table for children that love to use tools to disassemble.

The Playground (Located next to the Clubhouse) - The playground is equipped with swings, two basketball hoops, climbing structures, fire pole, loft, sand pit, picnic tables, slides, bridges, and plenty of open grass.

The Wooded Playground (Located above the upper playground) - The woods are a Schoolage favorite! This space is a natural playground used for exploring, manipulating, and respecting nature. We often build forts in teams throughout the year and partake in lots of dramatic play!

CVU - Located across the street, CVU is just a walking field trip away and we often use their public athletic fields, running track, ropes course, and sledding hills throughout the year!

We also will schedule afterschool field trips a couple times a month to close locations such as Lake Iroquois, Shelburne Pond, Geprag Park, local produce farms and orchards, etc… since we have full use of our field trip van (weather permitting of course). CVU is also a great resource for the Schoolagers to use, as they have a ropes course and various athletic fields. On school vacation days when the children attend for full days, our field trips branch out to locations that are further away such as the Majestic Movie Theater, Pizza Putt, and Spare Time for bowling.

The Clubhouse is open during the summer months to all School Age children ages 5-8, and offers a fun and stimulating environment to spend the summer months!! We live in the beautiful state of Vermont and believe in getting as much fresh air and positive energy out of the summer as the weather permits us to! We encourage outdoor exploration, education, and appreciation and accomplish this through team-building challenges, green-up days, weekly themed outdoor curriculum, and fort building in our wooded playground! We use our very own field trip van to take enriching places such as Smuggler's Notch Water Park, Maple St. Park and Pool, Pizza Putt for mini-golf and laser tag, Mt. Philo for a hike and a picnic, local skateboard parks, CVU ropes course, Spare Time for bowling and arcade games, the Spirit of Ethan Allen , ECHO Museum, Majastic Movie Theater, and many more!!! We also have our own on-site swimming pool equipped with both a deep and shallow section. We swim every single day during summer camp for no additional cost, and create lots of memories and milestones through swimming and water games. Our pool is supervised by our Lifeguard that is required to be a professional rescuer, CPR and First Aid Certified, as well as WSI certified (Water Safety Instructor). Summer Camp is a blast at the Annette's Preschool Clubhouse!!
