Meet the Staff!
Andrea Sambrook, Director of Annette’s Preschool
Andrea is the Director of Annette’s Preschool, and brings several decades of experience as a child development specialist, advocate and researcher with toddlers and young families. In her former role as Director of Research and Education at Gesell Institute, Andrea developed training programs for parents and teachers and oversaw a nationwide study which documented the ages and stages of child development in 3-6 year old children.
Andrea has coordinated multiple community based projects in Chicago and Boston focused on preventive intervention with preschool children at risk for developmental delay. She believes that early childhood educators can be especially effective at promoting early home/school connections by supporting families and using meaningful curriculum in the classroom. Andrea holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wellesley College and a Masters of Arts in Child Development from Tufts University. Andrea is a Master Instructor with Northern Lights, is a community organizer, a textile artist, and an advocate for children’s environmental health and safety. Andrea enjoys playing the flute, hiking with the family dog, Aspen, and is the ringleader for family games of Apples to Apples with her husband, Andy and their two children, Bennett and Will.
Victoria is the Director of Business and New Programs, bringing over 8 years of experience in Early Childhood Education to our Annette's community. Victoria has a B.A. in English and an M.A. in Sustainable Land Use, Planning and Design. She excelled as an administrator for the country’s largest Early Care and Education program and we look forward to having her become an integral part of all the dynamic initiatives happening here at Annette’s. She is looking forward to getting to know all of our families and providing them with high quality care and education!
Lisa has been a professional in the field of early care and education for over twenty years and is known throughout Vermont for her energy, passion, and dedication to support children and families. Lisa will be directing the afterschool and summer programming at the Clubhouse, and will also be a senior member of our professional development team working with our teaching staff in all classes.
Lisa's previous roles have included being an early childhood educator of children ages 0 through 8 in traditional, private, and early intervention programs; an administrator of a center-based early childhood program; a director of a summer camp for school age children; and an owner and operator of a home-based infant and toddler center. Lisa is passionate about promoting quality outdoor experiences for children, supporting the development of sensitive and inclusive learning environments, and advocating for play. Lisa is in the final stages of completing her PhD in Leadership, Policy and Change, and still finds time to exercise, dance, love up her family and dogs, and volunteer in the community!
Becky graduated from Castleton State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies (Elementary Education) in 2010. She has five years of experience working with infants through school-aged children, and two and half years working directly with toddlers at a five-star, NAEYC-accredited, Head Start center.
Becky has always had a passion working with children, and is a very calm, loving, and supportive teacher.
She is also an avid animal lover, and enjoys volunteering at the Humane Society of Chittenden County. Becky lives in South Hero, VT with her orange tabby cat, Zenith.
Maeghan is the Team Leader for the Preschool Team and is passionate about early education and especially emergent curriculum. Maeghan holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont, and has more than a decade of experience teaching children birth to five. She lives in Monkton with her husband and young son.
Karyn graduated from Castleton University in May of 2017 with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work with a double major in Sociology and a minor in Women and Gender's Studies. Karyn grew up in her mom's home child care program with an eagerness to help her take care of the children from the age of five! She has over 5 years of childcare experience and has a passion to consistently help, teach, and learn. Karyn has a strong focus on social and emotional awareness and progression with young children. She enjoys being outdoors, playing with her pup, and singing with her ukulele; which she looks forward to sharing with the classroom.
Amberly holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Valley Forge, She has been working with children ages 4 months to 14 years old for the past 10 years and has also worked in a preschool center in Pennsylvania while attending college there. Amberly is excited to join the Annette's team ad continue to learn and grow as a teacher.
Margaret recently graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, a teaching license and Early Childhood Education endorsement. She is a Connecticut native with a love for the outdoors! Margaret always incorporates the natural world into her teaching to support developing children's knowledge. Her passion for teaching began at a nature center in her hometown where she worked as a preschool camp counselor and then eventually secondary teacher. Margaret is passionate about play, inquiry based learning, documentation and reflection, storytelling and helping children reach their full potential! Margaret lives in Burlington.
Jessica graduated from Western State Colorado University in 2013 with a degree in Psychology. She has a lifelong commitment to sharing outdoor experiences with children. She most recently worked at Smuggler's Notch in their adaptive ski program, and brings a "can do" attitude to our program. She also was an Americorp volunteer and has experience as a summer camp counselor. Jessie currently lives in Jeffersonville, but is planning a move to be closer to Burlington in the near future. Jessie enjoys all of the wonderful outdoor opportunities Vermont has to offer, and hopes to share her passion for being outside and learning with the after school program.
Lindsay has been a member of the Annette's Preschool staff since the summer of 2002. In that time, Lindsay has worked with the Infant/Toddler, Preschool, and School Age Programs. Lindsay received her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2005. Lindsay lives in Essex Jct. with her husband, Matthew and daughter, Alexis.
Anthony completed his Bachelors of Science degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Champlain College in May 2105. Anthony has experience with early education and has worked with children age 2-9 for several years. Anthony served as an Intelligent Analyst for the Vermont National Guard for 6 years, and is a fan of music, outdoor experiential learning, block play and fun! Anthony lives in Richmond.
Gwen is a native of New York with a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street College in NYC. She loves being able to work in all of our classrooms helping out, as well as spending time with her husband and pets in her new home state of Vermont!
Rhonda has been working here at Annette's for five years now in the Infant/Toddler Program! Prior to her employment here, Rhonda worked at the Play & Learn Center in Lancaster, New Hampshire for five years where she helped with ages from 6 weeks to 8 years! During this time, Rhonda enrolled in two lengthy courses on Infant & Toddler Development and Health, Safety, and Nutrition. Rhonda's expertise and experience have been such a valuable asset to our Birth to Three program where she has connected with each and every child. Rhonda lives in Bristol with her daughter, April.
Kate a dedicated and qualified early childhood professional with a passion for children’s learning and care. She has close to ten years of experience working with children from birth-5 years old, but have mainly focused her learning on the development of toddlers, ages 1-3. She is passionate in her commitment to three things: honoring the individual needs of the children in her care, inspiring children’s interests in the natural world around them and communicating with their families about the importance of a positive start to their child’s education. She is the Team Leader for the Infant Toddler team, and a classroom teacher. In 2015 she graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Human Services with a concentration in Early Childhood Education from Springfield College, and is now working on her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at Champlain College. Kate and her boyfriend recently just bought a house is Essex where they live with their dog, Mugsy. As busy as her schedule is, Kate still finds time to do the things she loves, like: hiking, camping, mountain biking, teaching Zumba classes and reading.
‘Meri’ comes to Annette’s with 13 years of experience as an Early Educator with children from the ages of infancy to preschool. Meri holds a Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate, and is working consistently toward achieving her Associate’s degree in Early Childhood. Meri is a keen observer of young children and very knowledgeable about the ages and stages of child development. She enjoys camping, baking, the great outdoors and finding ways to bring it all into her classroom!
Angela is passionate about eco-healthy living, and supporting early language development in infants and toddlers. Angela has taught at Annette’s Preschool for over 14 years and holds her CDA, which is a nationally recognized credential for Early Childhood Educators. Angela will complete her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education in 2016. Angela lives in Bristol with her 3 children.
Maria received her Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education in 2005 and holds a Vermont State Teaching License and Early Education Endorsement. Maria works with our preschool program and oversees our Health and Safety and Emergency Response Planning initiatives. She is passionate about literacy development and leads Annette's community collaboration by intalling regular Storywalks on trails in our town. Maria lives in Huntington with her husband, daughter and dog, Cabella.
Stacy Simonyi has a diverse education in early childhood, reading education and librarianship. Throughout her career as a librarian and as an early childhood educator she has worked with a wide range of age groups--infants through graduate school students--in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont and New Zealand. Stacy loves sharing books, creating art projects, and being outside. She is very excited to join the Annette's team and work with Meri in the wonderful Koala classroom!
Beverly is a long time Hinesburg resident who is retired following her career in banking. Bev enjoys helping out the preschool in our Birth to Three classrooms and the little ones love her read alouds and happy disposition. Bev is always willing to lend a helping hand.
Dana is originally from Montana and has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education. He has worked with a variety of ages of children and holds an elementary level teaching license as well. He is passionate about the out of doors, fly fishing, studying aquatic life and is excited to develop environmental awareness as a basis for hands-on, experiential learning. Dana lives in Huntington with his wife and young daughter.
Dominique recently graduated from Champlain College with a B.S. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education, her Vermont State teaching license and Early Childhood Education endorsement. Dominique completed five teaching internships during her time at Champlain both here and abroad and garnered years of experiences with young children of all ages.Dominique has experience working with the collaborative teaching model and practices based on the Reggio-inspired emergent curriculum. All of these experiences have solidified Dominique’s passion for working with and enriching the lives of young children and she is excited to apply this knowledge to her new position at Annette’s! In her free time, she loves to travel to experience new places and people, take photographs, read, and spend time with those she loves most.
Kristina started at Annette's Preschool as a substitute teacher and a part-time staff member for our afterschool program in the Clubhouse. She recently took on a full-time position as the Monkey room Co-Teacher, and is very much enjoying this new role. Kristina enjoys being outdoors and exploring new things including hiking, fishing, and spending time with her family in her free time.
